Software tipping point

WERBLOG: "No Moore's Law for Software? Dana Blankenhorn sees a tipping point in the fact that the basic Microsoft software (Windows and Office) for a new PC costs more than all the hardware.

Comment: " This is a very interesting point, software is expensive. Is this old news or not? On the desktop only in the last few years has hardware prices decreased so much that software is now more expensive. On the server where we run our big infrastructures, I think it's been at that point for quite a while, when one gets non subsidized software. I say non subsidized because if you buy IBM big irons, to get you to buy they will throw the software in the first time around, but they know they will get you over time.

This is all besides the point, this tipping point is real. How do you make money from software outside of America and Europe 10 years from now when India and China are more or out of the dark age, because right now we'Re really the only ones that can afford it?

I'm all for Linux, I love Linux but as a business how can I make money off of Linux, sell services around the platform, sell products again only NA and Euro are going to buy. I can make money saving money on Linux, I guess.

Outsourcing to add 22 mn US jobs - The Economic Times

Outsourcing to add 22 mn US jobs - The Economic Times: "for every dollar invested in the offshore space, $0.58 was directly saved. This could be either redistributed to investors or customers. But she added that there were indirect benefits to the US, in terms of the import of US goods and services into India by Indian service providers, and so there was some transfer of profit back to the parent in the US.

Comment: " Interesting point of view. Since it'S from India, this is part of their lobby to get over the fear they are causing. All in all, they will eventually be considered part of the process of developing a product, because it makes economic sense plain in and simple.

Vonage - The Broadband Phone Company

Vonage - The Broadband Phone Company: "

Comment: Okay I'm very late on this one, but that ought to be keeping a few execs in the big carriers awake at night! Especially with a new funding round of 40M, for a total of 108M. As soon as we have number portability this might become a no brainer to swith and instead of 45-50$/month bill from Bell plus long distance, I will pay 30$ for unlimited local and long distance."
