Software tipping point

Comment: " This is a very interesting point, software is expensive. Is this old news or not? On the desktop only in the last few years has hardware prices decreased so much that software is now more expensive. On the server where we run our big infrastructures, I think it's been at that point for quite a while, when one gets non subsidized software. I say non subsidized because if you buy IBM big irons, to get you to buy they will throw the software in the first time around, but they know they will get you over time.

This is all besides the point, this tipping point is real. How do you make money from software outside of America and Europe 10 years from now when India and China are more or out of the dark age, because right now we'Re really the only ones that can afford it?

I'm all for Linux, I love Linux but as a business how can I make money off of Linux, sell services around the platform, sell products again only NA and Euro are going to buy. I can make money saving money on Linux, I guess.

As soon as we have number portability this might become a no brainer to swith and instead of 45-50$/month bill from Bell plus long distance, I will pay 30$ for unlimited local and long distance."
